A Precious Gift

Wow, I can't believe that he's finally here!!

Photobucket

It was truly an amazing experience.

The short version:
I went in the night before (the 24th) so that they could start the "balloon."
It fell out at 4am, which meant that I was about 3cm dilated.
At 5am they started pitocin.
About 7am I started feeling some contractions.
8am the Dr. broke my water and said that I was almost 4cm.
9am the contractions started to become painful. I was given a "shot" of stadol. 5cm.
10am the contractions doubled in length and strength. I had to push. Almost 10cm.
10:15 I called my mom so that she could "be there."
A contraction or two later I started pushing...

and my baby arrived at 10:24am on Aug 25, 2009, weighing 7lbs 1oz and 19.5" long.

Creation to Greeks ~ week 5

We finally finished week 5!!

On Monday, August 3 we started our science experiment. We're trying to grow mold on a regular piece of bread and compare it to toast and a piece with neosporin on it. After almost 2 weeks we have NO MOLD. It's a little disappointing. I've never considered myself to have a green thumb, but this is ridiculous!!

We finished memorizing the books of the Old Testament this week. They did a great job, I'm so proud!

Pyramids made out of sugar cubes and icing. Of course when they were done I had to let them taste a sugar cube.

This is our timeline so far...

HYMN STUDY: Holy, Holy, Holy focus on verse 1. We also read the story of the author, Reginald Herber from Hymns for a Kid's Heart.

Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, Holy, Holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

VOCABULARY: They finally started English From the Roots Up. I'm having them do 2 words a week until they're caught up. This week they did pages for biblos and sauros.

ART HISTORY/STUDY: God and the History of Art is a really really good program, I just think it was a bit over my kids' heads. The new plan is to read from Hillyer's A Child's History of Art, this week we read part 1, chapter 1: The Oldest Pictures in the World. Next week we will start instruction from Art Adventures at Home.

READ ALOUD: Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt, pages 3-19.

LATIN: Latin's Not So Tough 1, pages 87-96. They should finish next week.

MATH:

*T* did lessons 12 and 13 from R&S 1. He's learning to add now. :)

*C* worked on renaming. It was a little hard for him to grasp at first, but now that he's got it the boy has taken off! We worked quite a bit in the Text before we moved on to exercise 20 in Primary Math 2A... nice and easy...

*B* is still finishing up PM 2B. She's working through the Standards textbook and doing the corresponding pages in the US Ed. workbook. Text: pages 33-38 which include practices B, C, D. Workbook: exercises 22-23 and pages 55-56 of the Standards workbook. Those pages involved Division with Remainders, not included in the US Ed.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

*T* played on Starfall.com, but that's about it.

*C* completed LLATL Yellow, Lesson 1.

*B* did 1/2 of LLATL Orange, Lesson 1. She also read The Boxcar Children #1 in it's entirety! Next week I'll have her do the Book Study and finish lesson 1.

She also did Lesson 1 in Writing Strands 3. Each day she asked to do it first. :)

Our Schooling Area

NBTSbloghop

I absolutely LOVED looking at everyone's blogs. I noticed that most people included their couch. This is where we do most of our reading. Lately, it's where we do math and LA also. I go over things with them and send them to their room or the table to finish.

This is the Kitchen/Main School Area. (I just made Laundry Soap.)

Here's the whiteboard and our new bookshelf. The banker's boxes both have more books in them. I seriously need more space.

This is both of my school bookshelves. The little one still needs filled and as you can see it's in our hallway below the timeline.

And finally, the calendar with our Jewish Holiday list next to it.

If you're using My Father's World: Creation to the Greeks this year (or have in the past) please link to your CtG posts. It would be much easier for us if you could create a label or tag for all of your CtG posts and link us to that tag.

My actual label is MFW: CtG, but this is what the url looks like: http://iamaud.blogspot.com/search/label/MFW%3A%20CtG That takes you directly to all of my CtG posts.

Canning Beans

We had planned on starting school this week... and sort of did. I guess we'll just stretch it over 2 weeks. I have 2 reasons for the delay: 1) Nauseousness (morning sickness) has come back with a vengeance and 2) I had to help break and can beans.

Great experience! I like breaking beans... I can sit and do nothing, yet still accomplish a whole lot! :) We ended up canning about 50 quarts and I got 3 dozen of them. Had some last night, they are AWESOME!! I hope I never have to eat commercially canned beans again.

Summer Swap ~ Montana

*C* got his package yesterday from "Little Bear." Poor guy had to wait all day to open it. I was away from home breaking beans and canning them, so he had to sit and look at the box for about 5 hours. :)

These were also included for the other 3 kids.
